Losing a very close relative during the holidays was a profound shock. It&#8217;s a strange and challenging experience, and many people find themselves struggling with similar emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Remembering a Beloved Grandmother<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">December 15th is now a poignant date, marking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.com\/library\/facing-grief-and-loss-during-the-holidays\">the loss<\/a> of my grandmother. Birthdays will never quite be the same since they take place just 2 days before this date. My grandmother was a central figure in our family, a source of connection and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Finding Peace and Acceptance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It brings comfort to know she passed peacefully, with a smile, and is no longer suffering from Alzheimer&#8217;s disease. She had been dealing with this diagnosis for most of the final 10 years she was alive. I am grateful for the opportunity to say goodbye during a visit to New York City, where she lived with my aunt, who was also her primary caretaker, in July last year, together with my dad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-18x12.png 18w, https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2-920x613.png 920w, https:\/\/augustocdominguez.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Grief-2.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Reality of Moving Forward After Loss<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has now been over three months since her passing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org\/hometown-health\/speaking-of-health\/grief-and-loss-throughout-the-holiday-season\">Life continues<\/a>, as it must. One of the realities of death is that those left behind must carry on. I deeply miss my paternal grandmother, the only grandmother I had the privilege of knowing. My maternal grandmother passed away before I was born, but I&#8217;ve heard she was a woman of faith, loved and cherished by many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Honoring a Life Well-Lived<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My grandmother was loved and is deeply missed.
