My Dream Travel Destinations: Visa Required!

Traveling is a universal dream, and I have my own list of must-visit places around the world. As a Dominican citizen, my visa-free travel options are somewhat limited. This means planning ahead and securing visas is a crucial part of my travel preparation. Join me as I share my dream destinations and the challenges of traveling with a Dominican passport.

My Top Travel Bucket List Destinations:

1. Australia: Sydney and Melbourne Adventures

Australia is a dream destination offering diverse experiences, from the Great Barrier Reef to the Outback. Sydney is famous for its vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, especially Oxford Street and the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Melbourne is known for its artsy vibe and inclusive community. Australia’s natural wonders like Uluru, the Whitsundays, and Tasmania are also on my list.

2. Canada: Toronto and Vancouver Exploration

Canada is renowned for its LGBTQ+-friendly policies. Toronto’s Church-Wellesley Village and Vancouver’s Davie Village are key LGBTQ+ hubs. I’m also eager to explore Banff National Park and experience Canada’s natural beauty. Toronto Pride is a major event I hope to attend.

3. Portugal: Lisbon’s Historic Charm

Portugal has become a top LGBTQ+-friendly destination in Europe. Lisbon offers a rich history and vibrant queer scene. I want to experience the Lisbon Pride Parade and the Queer Lisboa Film Festival. The Algarve coast and the charming town of Sintra are also on my itinerary.

4. North Macedonia: Skopje and Ohrid Discovery

North Macedonia is an emerging destination with stunning landscapes and ancient history. Skopje and Ohrid are on my list. While LGBTQ+ rights are still developing, events like Skopje Pride are gaining visibility. I’m interested in hiking in the mountains and exploring national parks.

5. Sweden: Stockholm and Malmo’s Progressive Culture

Sweden is one of the most progressive countries globally. Stockholm’s Gamla Stan and Södermalm district are LGBTQ+ centers. Stockholm Pride is Scandinavia’s largest Pride event. I also want to visit Malmo and explore Sweden’s archipelagos.

6. New Zealand: Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington’s Natural Beauty

New Zealand offers breathtaking landscapes and remains a stronghold for LGBTQ+ rights. Auckland and Wellington have active queer communities. I’m excited to see the glowworm caves of Waitomo, Milford Sound, and the Hobbiton film set.

Bonus: Argentina: Buenos Aires and Beyond

Argentina is a pioneer in LGBTQ+ rights in Latin America. Buenos Aires is a hotspot for queer culture. I want to experience LGBTQ+-friendly tango classes and the Buenos Aires Pride parade. I also hope to visit Mendoza’s wine country, Patagonia, and Iguazú Falls.

Why These Destinations?

My travel choices are influenced by personal connections. Argentinian telenovelas, Eurovision, and a trip to Japan have all shaped my bucket list. I’m drawn to the cultures of Asia and Oceania, and I’m excited to explore these diverse destinations.
